Raymond Hitchcock (actor)
Raymond Hitchcock (1865 – 1929) was an American stage and screen actor, comedian, and singer, best known for his work in musical comedies and revues. Born in Auburn, New York, Hitchcock began his career in vaudeville and stock companies before achieving Broadway fame.
Hitchcock's stage career spanned several decades, with prominent roles in productions such as A Yankee Tourist (1907), The Man Who Owns Broadway (1909), Hitchy Koo (a series of revues beginning in 1917), and Pinwheel (1922). He was known for his distinctive lisp, his affable persona, and his improvisational skills, which often led to unexpected comedic moments on stage. He frequently incorporated topical humor and satirical commentary into his performances.
Beyond the stage, Hitchcock also appeared in a number of silent films, including My Valet (1915), Captain Kidd, Jr. (1919), and An Adventuress (1920). While his film career was less extensive than his stage work, it provided him with wider exposure to a national audience.
Hitchcock was a popular and influential figure in the American entertainment industry during his lifetime, and his contributions to musical theatre and comedy are still remembered today.
