Wienzeile

The Wienzeile is a major street in Vienna, Austria, following the course of the Wien River for a considerable distance. It is divided into two sections: the Rechte Wienzeile (Right Wienzeile) on the river's right (south) bank and the Linke Wienzeile (Left Wienzeile) on the river's left (north) bank.

The Wienzeile is notable for its Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) architecture, particularly the buildings designed by Otto Wagner around 1898-99. These include the Majolikahaus and the nearby apartment building at Linke Wienzeile 38, decorated with medallions by Koloman Moser. These buildings are significant examples of Viennese Secession architecture and are popular tourist attractions.

The street's development was part of a larger urban planning initiative in the late 19th century, which included regulating the Wien River and creating new transportation routes. The Wienzeile plays a vital role in Vienna's traffic system, connecting various districts and providing access to important locations along the river.

The Naschmarkt, Vienna's largest open-air market, is located adjacent to the Rechte Wienzeile. This proximity contributes to the area's vibrant atmosphere and makes it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
