Schneck (mountain)
The Schneck is a mountain located in the Berchtesgaden Alps, within the German state of Bavaria. It is part of the Untersberg massif, although it is often considered a separate peak due to its distinct summit and relative isolation.
The mountain's name is derived from the German word for "snail" (Schnecke), possibly due to its rounded shape or the snail shells found in the area.
Geologically, the Schneck is composed primarily of Dachstein limestone.
The summit of the Schneck offers panoramic views of the surrounding Alpine landscape, including the Untersberg, the Berchtesgadener Land region, and into Austria.
Hiking trails of varying difficulty lead to the summit, making it a popular destination for mountaineers and hikers of all skill levels. Some routes require scrambling experience. Information on trail conditions and difficulty should be obtained prior to any ascent.
