Kitsilano

Kitsilano, often shortened to "Kits," is a neighbourhood located in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Situated on the city's west side, it is bordered by English Bay to the north, Burrard Street to the east, 16th Avenue to the south, and Blanca Street to the west.

Kitsilano is known for its beaches, particularly Kitsilano Beach, a popular destination for swimming, sunbathing, and watersports. The neighbourhood boasts a relaxed and bohemian atmosphere, reflecting its history as a counter-cultural hub in the 1960s and 70s.

The area is characterized by a mix of residential housing, including single-family homes, apartments, and condominiums. Commercial activity is concentrated along West 4th Avenue and West Broadway, offering a diverse range of shops, restaurants, cafes, and services.

Historically, Kitsilano was the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation. In the early 20th century, it developed as a residential area and became home to a diverse population, including students, artists, and families. The name "Kitsilano" is derived from X̱wáchelch’wexiwey, a Squamish chief also known as August Jack Khatsahlano.

Kitsilano is well-connected to other parts of Vancouver by public transit, including bus routes and the nearby Burrard Street Bridge. It is a popular residential area due to its proximity to the beach, parks, and amenities.
