Papanasam (film)

Papanasam is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language crime drama film directed by Jeethu Joseph. It is a remake of his own 2013 Malayalam film, Drishyam. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Gautami Tadimalla in the lead roles, with Asha Sarath and Roshan Basheer reprising their roles from the original Malayalam version. Kalabhavan Mani, Nivetha Thomas, Esther Anil, and Anant Mahadevan also play pivotal roles.

The plot revolves around Suyambulingam (Kamal Haasan), a middle-class man living in Papanasam with his family, who runs a cable TV business. His life takes a drastic turn when his daughter is involved in an accidental death of a police officer's son. To protect his family from the consequences, Suyambulingam uses his intelligence and resourcefulness, drawn from the films he watches, to create a believable alibi and manipulate the evidence.

The film explores themes of family, protection, social class, and the lengths to which a father will go to safeguard his loved ones. Papanasam was critically and commercially successful upon its release, praised for its screenplay, performances, and direction. The film was later remade in Hindi as Drishyam (2015) starring Ajay Devgn.
