Huveaune
The Huveaune is a coastal river in southeastern France, flowing through the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It rises in the Sainte-Baume mountain range and flows generally westward, emptying into the Mediterranean Sea at Marseille.
The river's length is approximately 48 kilometers (30 miles). It is known for being largely channeled and highly urbanized along much of its course, particularly as it passes through Marseille. This has resulted in significant environmental challenges, including pollution and reduced biodiversity.
The Huveaune valley has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the river has historically been used for irrigation and powering mills. Today, its primary function is drainage and flood control for the densely populated areas it traverses. Efforts are underway to rehabilitate sections of the river and improve water quality.
