Contra (film)

Contra is a 2020 German comedy film directed by Sönke Wortmann. It is a remake of the 2017 French film Le Brio (also known as Brillantissime). The film stars Christoph Maria Herbst, Nilam Farooq, and Hassan Akkouch.

The plot centers on Professor Richard Pohl (Herbst), a law professor known for his racist and sexist remarks. After insulting a student, Naima Hamid (Farooq), in a lecture, the university threatens to dismiss him unless he mentors her for a national debating competition. Reluctantly, Pohl agrees, and the unlikely duo form an uneasy alliance as they prepare for the debate. The film explores themes of prejudice, cultural understanding, and personal growth. Through their interactions and the process of debate preparation, both Pohl and Naima challenge each other's perspectives and learn valuable lessons.
