Haixinsha Island (Tianhe District)
Haixinsha Island (Chinese: 海心沙; pinyin: Hǎixīnshā) is an island located in the Pearl River in Guangzhou, Tianhe District, Guangdong Province, China. It served as a key venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Asian Games and the 2010 Asian Para Games.
The island is situated on the central axis of Guangzhou's new city center, Zhujiang New Town. Its position places it between the twin towers of the Guangzhou International Finance Center (West Tower) and the CTF Finance Centre (East Tower). The island is characterized by open spaces, walkways, and landscaping designed to accommodate large crowds.
Before its redevelopment for the Asian Games, Haixinsha Island was a relatively undeveloped area. Its transformation involved significant infrastructure development, including the construction of a stadium and associated facilities. The island's design emphasizes its connection to the river and its role as a public space.
Since the Asian Games, Haixinsha Island has continued to function as a public park and event space. It hosts various cultural events, performances, and festivals throughout the year. The island provides panoramic views of the Guangzhou skyline, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals.
Access to Haixinsha Island is primarily through the Haixinsha Station on Guangzhou Metro Line 3 and the APM (Automated People Mover) line. Ferry services also connect the island to other parts of Guangzhou.
