Hilda Raz

Hilda Raz (born 1936) is an American poet, essayist, editor, and educator. Known for her unflinching explorations of the body, aging, illness, and the complexities of female experience, her work often blends the personal with the political and philosophical.

Raz is the author of numerous poetry collections, including Trans, All Odd and Splendid, Divine Honors, What Becomes You, The Bone Dish, and Apprehensions. She is also the editor of Prairie Schooner, a nationally recognized literary journal published at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Raz has served as editor for over 30 years, championing both established and emerging voices in contemporary literature.

Beyond her editorial and poetic endeavors, Raz has written extensively on the craft of writing and the role of literature in society. Her essays appear in various journals and anthologies. She has received numerous awards and fellowships in recognition of her contributions to the literary arts.
