Engalabi
The engalabi is a long, tube-shaped drum from Uganda. It is traditionally made from a single piece of wood, hollowed out and covered with a lizard or monitor lizard skin membrane that is secured with pegs. The engalabi is a key instrument in traditional Ugandan music, particularly in the music of the Buganda people. It is typically played with the hands and produces a deep, resonant sound. The engalabi is often played in ensembles with other drums and traditional instruments, and it is an integral part of many ceremonies and celebrations. Variations in size and specific construction techniques may exist across different regions and communities within Uganda.
