INS Shardul (2004)
INS Shardul (pennant number L26) is a Shardul-class amphibious warfare vessel of the Indian Navy. Commissioned in 2004, it is the second of the class, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.
INS Shardul is designed to transport and deploy troops, vehicles, and equipment. It has a large flight deck capable of operating helicopters, and a well deck that can accommodate landing craft for amphibious operations. The ship plays a crucial role in humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) operations, often deployed to deliver relief supplies and evacuate personnel in affected areas. It also participates in joint military exercises with other nations, enhancing interoperability and strengthening diplomatic ties.
The vessel's capabilities extend to supporting naval operations, including maritime security patrols and anti-piracy missions. INS Shardul is armed with close-range weapon systems for self-defense.
