Maxtor

Maxtor Corporation was an American computer hard disk drive manufacturer. It was founded in 1982 and acquired by Seagate Technology in 2006. At its peak, Maxtor was one of the largest HDD manufacturers in the world, competing with companies like Seagate, Western Digital, and IBM (later Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, now Western Digital).

Maxtor produced a wide range of hard drives for desktop computers, laptops, servers, and external storage solutions. The company was known for its DiamondMax series of desktop hard drives and its shared storage products aimed at small businesses and home networks.

Prior to its acquisition, Maxtor faced financial difficulties and market share losses due to increasing competition and technological shifts within the hard drive industry. Seagate's acquisition of Maxtor allowed Seagate to significantly expand its market share and intellectual property portfolio. The Maxtor brand was discontinued after the acquisition, and its products were integrated into the Seagate product line.
