Asaudha

Asaudha (also spelled Asadha) is a month in the Hindu lunar calendar. It typically falls between June and July in the Gregorian calendar. It is the fourth month in the traditional Hindu calendar and the third month in the Vikrama Samvat calendar.

The month is considered religiously significant in Hinduism. Many important festivals and rituals take place during Asaudha, including Guru Purnima, a festival dedicated to honoring spiritual teachers. The Ekadashi fasts of Yogini Ekadashi and Devshayani Ekadashi also occur in this month.

The weather during Asaudha in the Indian subcontinent is typically hot and humid, marking the beginning of the monsoon season. Agricultural activities, especially sowing of crops, intensify during this period due to the arrival of the rains.

The lunar month begins on the new moon and is named after the Nakshatra (lunar mansion) that is prominent during the full moon (Purnima). The full moon during Asaudha usually occurs near the Asadha Nakshatra. The month that follows Asaudha is Shravana.
