Rob Riley (comic strip)
Rob Riley was a British comic strip that ran primarily in the Eagle comic from 1950 to 1961. It was created and initially written by Chad Varah, who later became known for founding The Samaritans. The artwork was primarily handled by Geoff Campion.
The strip followed the adventures of Rob Riley, an ordinary but resourceful young boy who stumbles into extraordinary situations. Stories often involved exotic locales, perilous journeys, and encounters with villains, all presented in a relatively realistic and straightforward style compared to some of the more fantastical strips of the era. Riley was typically portrayed as courageous, quick-thinking, and morally upright.
The storylines evolved over the years, sometimes incorporating elements of science fiction or historical adventure. While popular, the strip was eventually replaced as the Eagle's readership's tastes shifted. Rob Riley is remembered as a notable example of adventure comics for children in post-war Britain.
