Crusade in Europe (video game)

Crusade in Europe is a World War II-themed computer wargame, originally released by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI) in 1985. Designed by Gary Grigsby, it simulates the Allied campaign in Western Europe, from the Normandy landings (Operation Overlord) in June 1944 to the end of the war in May 1945.

The game is turn-based and played on a strategic map divided into hexes, each representing a specific terrain type. Players control either the Allied or Axis forces, managing units representing armies, corps, and air forces. Gameplay involves movement, combat, supply, and production. The game features a detailed order of battle, with a wide variety of historical units available to both sides.

Crusade in Europe is considered a complex and challenging wargame, emphasizing strategic planning and logistical management. Successful gameplay requires careful consideration of factors such as terrain, weather, supply lines, and enemy strength. The game includes several scenarios of varying length and complexity, allowing players to focus on specific campaigns or play the entire war.

Later versions of the game were released for different platforms, including Apple II, Commodore 64, and IBM PC. A revised and expanded version, Crusade in Europe Gold, was also released, incorporating improvements and additional features. The game is considered a classic of the computer wargame genre and influenced subsequent strategic war games.
