Hurray (game)
Hurray is a two-player abstract strategy game, typically played on a square grid. The objective of Hurray is to be the first player to connect two opposite sides of the board with a continuous chain of their pieces.
Gameplay:
The game begins with an empty board. Players alternate turns, placing one of their pieces on any unoccupied space on the board. One player typically aims to connect the top and bottom edges of the board, while the other player aims to connect the left and right edges. Pieces once placed cannot be moved or removed.
Winning:
A player wins when they have created an unbroken chain of their pieces connecting their two target edges. This chain can be a straight line or any connected path.
Strategy:
Strategic play in Hurray involves both building one's own connection path and blocking the opponent's path. Key considerations include anticipating the opponent's moves, creating multiple potential pathways to victory, and focusing on critical areas of the board to disrupt the opponent's strategy. The center of the board is often considered a valuable area, as pieces placed there can contribute to connections in multiple directions.
Variations:
Hurray may be played on boards of varying sizes, influencing the complexity and length of the game. While typically played on a square grid, variations using hexagonal grids also exist.
