Military Police (Austria)

The Militärpolizei (MP) is the military police force of Austria. They are responsible for maintaining law and order within the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer). Their duties include:

• Security: Protecting military installations, personnel, and equipment. This includes access control, perimeter security, and anti-terrorism measures.

• Traffic Control: Regulating traffic within military areas and during military exercises, as well as enforcing traffic laws applicable to military vehicles.

• Law Enforcement: Investigating crimes committed by or against members of the Bundesheer, apprehending suspects, and maintaining military discipline. They also support civilian law enforcement agencies in specific situations as defined by law.

• Protection of High-Ranking Officials: Providing security details for high-ranking military officials and visiting dignitaries.

• Crowd Control: Managing crowds and maintaining order during military events and demonstrations.

• Support for Military Operations: Providing security and law enforcement support to Austrian forces deployed on operations, both within Austria and abroad. This may include detention operations and investigations.

The Militärpolizei are easily identifiable by their distinctive white helmets and armbands bearing the inscription "MP". They operate under the command of the Kommando Militärpolizei (Military Police Command). The force is composed of both conscripted soldiers (during their military service) and professional soldiers. Specific training is required to serve as a member of the Militärpolizei.
