Monchhichis (TV series)

Monchhichis is the name of multiple animated television series based on the popular Monchhichi toy line created by Koichi Sekiguchi. These series have varied in production studios, animation styles, and storylines across their different iterations.

The most well-known adaptation aired in the United States as part of the Marvel Productions lineup in 1983-1984. This version centered on the adventures of the Monchhichis, anthropomorphic monkey-like creatures who live in Monchhichi Land, a lush and vibrant forest filled with various fantastical locations. The Monchhichis, each with their own distinct personalities and skills, work together to protect their home from the Grumplins, mischievous and often clumsy creatures who seek to disrupt the peace and harmony of Monchhichi Land. Notable characters included Monchhichi, Monchhigoroo, Tootoo, and Kiddlee. The series emphasized themes of friendship, cooperation, and environmental stewardship.

Another series, titled Futago no Monchhichi (ふたごのモンチッチ, "Twin Monchhichis"), aired in Japan in 1980.

A more recent CGI animated series, Monchhichi, premiered in 2017. This version introduces new characters and storylines while maintaining the core concept of the Monchhichis as playful and caring creatures living in a magical world. This iteration features Hanae and Willow, two best friends who are transported to a world called Dream Tree and become Monchhichis, tasked with helping others find their dreams. The series emphasizes themes of friendship, self-discovery, and the power of dreams.
