Congreve baronets of Walton (1812)
The Congreve baronets of Walton, in the County of Stafford, was a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 7 December 1812 for William Congreve, a British Army officer and Comptroller of the Royal Laboratory at Woolwich. He later served as a Member of Parliament.
The second Baronet was his son, William Congreve. He also served as a Member of Parliament. The title became extinct upon the death of the third Baronet, Sir William Walter Congreve, in 1927. He was a distinguished soldier, winning the Victoria Cross in the Second Boer War, and rose to the rank of General. He died from wounds received in action during the First World War.
The family seat was Congreve, near Penkridge, Staffordshire.
