Es'hail 2

Es'hail 2 is a geostationary communications satellite owned and operated by Es'hailSat, the Qatar Satellite Company. Positioned at 26° East longitude, it provides television broadcasting and telecommunications services across the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.

What distinguishes Es'hail 2 from many other communications satellites is its inclusion of two amateur radio transponders. These transponders offer a wideband capability for digital amateur television (DATV) and other experimental digital modes, as well as a narrowband transponder primarily intended for traditional SSB and CW voice and Morse code communication. This makes Es'hail 2 the first geostationary satellite specifically designed to provide amateur radio communication capabilities across such a broad geographical region.

The amateur radio payload on Es'hail 2 is a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS) and AMSAT-DL (Germany). The satellite's transponders are accessible to licensed amateur radio operators worldwide, promoting experimentation, education, and emergency communication.
