Douk Saga
Douk Saga (born Stéphane Doukouré, May 1, 1974 – October 12, 2006) was an Ivorian singer, composer, and producer, best known as the leader of the Zouglou musical group, Les Garagistes. He is considered a pivotal figure in the evolution and popularization of Zouglou music, a genre born out of student protests and social commentary in Côte d'Ivoire.
Saga and Les Garagistes rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s with their distinctive brand of Zouglou, characterized by its socially conscious lyrics, energetic rhythms, and often humorous delivery. His work frequently addressed themes of poverty, corruption, social injustice, and the everyday struggles of Ivorian youth.
His premature death in 2006, reportedly from complications related to AIDS, had a profound impact on the Ivorian music scene and his fan base. He remains a highly respected and influential figure in Ivorian popular culture, remembered for his contributions to Zouglou music and his advocacy for social change through his art. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of Ivorian artists.
