William Gillies (Scottish politician)
William Gillies (born 13 September 1903, died 23 January 1958) was a Scottish Labour Party politician.
Gillies served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for West Lothian from 1951 until his death in 1958. Before entering Parliament, he was a prominent figure within the Labour Party, serving as the International Secretary from 1944 to 1951. In this role, he was deeply involved in post-war international affairs and Labour's foreign policy formulation.
Gillies was educated at Glasgow University and became a teacher before embarking on his political career. His background in education informed his political views, particularly concerning social justice and equal opportunities. His time in Parliament was relatively short, but he was known as a diligent and articulate MP who focused on issues affecting his constituency and on broader social and economic reforms.
