Charles Beckett (politician)
Charles Beckett (1866-1934) was a British Liberal politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brigg from 1906 to January 1910, and then again from December 1910 to 1918.
Born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Beckett came from a family involved in the seed and agricultural machinery business. He was educated at Retford Grammar School.
In Parliament, he generally supported the Liberal government's policies, including social welfare reforms and the 1911 Parliament Act. He was particularly interested in agricultural issues, reflecting his family background.
Beckett lost his seat in the 1918 general election, which saw a significant decline in support for the Liberal Party. He did not return to Parliament.
Beyond politics, Beckett was involved in local affairs in Lincolnshire.
