George Palmer (MP for South Essex)
George Palmer (1860-1933) was a British businessman and politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Essex from 1922 to 1923.
Palmer was born into the Huntley & Palmers biscuit manufacturing family, a company based in Reading. He became involved in the family business, contributing to its operations and management.
In the 1922 general election, Palmer stood as a Conservative candidate for the South Essex constituency and won the seat. However, his tenure as an MP was relatively brief. He lost the seat in the 1923 general election.
Aside from his political career, Palmer maintained his involvement in the Huntley & Palmers company and contributed to various philanthropic endeavors. He was also a Justice of the Peace.
