Scarlett (musical)
Scarlett was a musical adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's novel Gone with the Wind. The musical featured music by Harold Rome and a book by Horton Foote. It premiered in London's West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1970. The production was notable for its lavish staging and long running time. It starred June Ritchie in the role of Scarlett O'Hara and Robert Swann as Rhett Butler. Despite the popularity of the novel and the substantial investment in the production, Scarlett received mixed reviews and was considered a financial disappointment. It did not transfer to Broadway. The musical's score and book have not been widely revived or published.
