Peterlee

Peterlee is a town in County Durham, England. It was established as a new town in 1948 under the New Towns Act 1946. The town's name is a portmanteau, combining the name of Peter, a local miners' leader who died in a mining accident, and Lee, in recognition of the General Manager of the Easington Coal Company, who supported the establishment of the new town.

Peterlee was primarily created to house miners and their families from the surrounding coalfields. As the coal industry declined in the latter half of the 20th century, Peterlee diversified its economy. It is now home to a range of businesses, including manufacturing, technology, and service industries.

The town is located on the A19 road, providing access to Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Peterlee has a range of amenities, including shopping centers, schools, and recreational facilities. East Durham College has a campus located within the town.
