Paul Kane (entrepreneur)

Paul Kane is an Irish technology entrepreneur and investor, best known for co-founding NewBay Software, a mobile software company that was acquired by Research In Motion (BlackBerry) in 2011.

Kane studied Electronic Engineering at University College Dublin (UCD) and later obtained an MBA from the Smurfit Business School. Before founding NewBay, he worked at Baltimore Technologies, an internet security company.

NewBay Software developed a platform for mobile content sharing, including photo, video, and contacts synchronization. It was a key supplier to mobile operators globally, allowing them to offer cloud-based services to their subscribers. Kane served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at NewBay and played a significant role in its strategic direction and technological innovation.

Following the acquisition of NewBay, Kane became Vice President of Software at BlackBerry. He later left BlackBerry to pursue other entrepreneurial and investment opportunities. He is actively involved in the Irish technology ecosystem, mentoring startups and investing in early-stage companies. Kane has also been a speaker at technology conferences and events, sharing his experience and insights on mobile technologies and entrepreneurship. He is considered a significant figure in the Irish tech industry.
