Wang Xudong (curator)

Wang Xudong is a Chinese archaeologist and museum administrator who has served as the Director of the Palace Museum (also known as the Forbidden City) in Beijing. He is known for his expertise in Dunhuang studies and his efforts in preserving and promoting Chinese cultural heritage.

Prior to his appointment at the Palace Museum, Wang Xudong spent a significant portion of his career at the Dunhuang Academy, a research institution dedicated to the study and preservation of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He held various positions there, eventually becoming the Director of the Academy. During his tenure, he focused on the conservation of the murals and artifacts within the caves, as well as the development of advanced technologies for preservation and digitization. He also spearheaded efforts to promote international collaboration in the field of Dunhuang studies.

Wang Xudong's research interests lie primarily in the archaeology, history, and art of the Silk Road, particularly the Dunhuang region. He has published extensively on these topics.
