GeoTrust
GeoTrust was a certificate authority (CA) that provided digital certificates, including SSL/TLS certificates, code signing certificates, and email security certificates. GeoTrust was acquired by Symantec in 2010, and Symantec's website security business, including GeoTrust, was subsequently acquired by DigiCert in 2017.
GeoTrust-issued certificates were used to authenticate websites, secure online transactions, and encrypt communications. They helped establish trust between web servers and browsers, verifying the identity of the website owner and protecting sensitive data transmitted between users and the site.
While GeoTrust no longer operates as an independent entity, its legacy lives on as DigiCert continues to issue and manage certificates that were once under the GeoTrust brand. These certificates serve the same fundamental purpose of providing security and authentication for online communication and transactions. Because of its acquisition and integration into DigiCert, it is not generally referred to as an independent authority, but rather as a brand of certificate that DigiCert offers.
