John Fane (1751–1824)

John Fane (1751–1824) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons for several decades.

Fane was the son of John Fane of Wormsley, Oxfordshire, and his wife Elizabeth Swynfen. He inherited the Wormsley Park estate upon his father's death.

He entered Parliament in 1772 as Member of Parliament (MP) for Oxfordshire, a seat he held until 1784. He then served as MP for Henley from 1790 to 1807, and finally returned to represent Oxfordshire from 1807 until his death in 1824.

Fane's political affiliations are generally considered to have been Tory or Pittite, aligning with the conservative political factions of the time. He was not particularly known for his active participation in debates, but consistently supported the government of the day.

He married in 1773 to Lady Elizabeth Parker, daughter of Thomas Parker, 3rd Earl of Macclesfield. They had several children.

John Fane of Wormsley is not to be confused with other contemporary individuals of the same or similar name. His primary legacy is his lengthy service as a Member of Parliament representing Oxfordshire and Henley.
