Dick Turpin (horse, foaled 1929)
Dick Turpin was a British Thoroughbred racehorse foaled in 1929. He was a bay colt sired by Friar Marcus out of the mare Clarissimus. He was bred by the National Stud.
Dick Turpin achieved notable success on the racecourse, particularly in staying races. Among his most significant victories was the 1933 Ascot Gold Cup, a prestigious race for long-distance horses. He was owned by Lord Rosebery during his racing career.
After his racing career, Dick Turpin was retired to stud. His influence as a sire, while present, was not as significant as his achievements on the track. He is remembered as a tough and durable stayer who excelled at the highest level of British racing.
