Revolution (2012 film)

Revolution is an American post-apocalyptic science fiction television series that aired on NBC from September 17, 2012, to May 21, 2014, for a total of 42 episodes across two seasons. The series was created by Eric Kripke and produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions.

The show is set in the near future, approximately 15 years after a mysterious global event known as "The Blackout" caused all electricity on Earth to suddenly and permanently cease functioning. This catastrophic event led to the collapse of modern civilization, forcing humanity to adapt to a pre-industrial lifestyle. Governments dissolved, societies fractured, and dangerous militias rose to power, controlling resources and territories.

The central narrative follows the Matheson family, who possess a secret that could potentially restore electricity and thus reshape the world. The siblings Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and Danny Matheson (Graham Rogers) are forced to confront the violent realities of this new world when the Monroe Republic militia, led by the ruthless General Sebastian Monroe (David Lyons), murders their father, Ben Matheson (Tim Guinee), and kidnaps Danny.

Driven by grief and a desire for revenge, Charlie embarks on a perilous journey to find her estranged Uncle Miles Matheson (Billy Burke), a former Marine living as a recluse. Miles possesses knowledge of the circumstances surrounding The Blackout and is a skilled fighter, making him their best hope against the Monroe Republic.

Throughout the series, the Matheson siblings and their allies, including Aaron Pittman (Zak Orth), a former Google executive, and Maggie Foster (Anna Lise Phillips), a doctor with a mysterious past, face numerous challenges and enemies as they navigate the treacherous landscape. They encounter other survivors, militias, and government factions vying for power, uncovering secrets about The Blackout and the technology behind it. The characters grapple with moral dilemmas, forming alliances and confronting betrayals as they fight to restore electricity and rebuild a better future.

The show explored themes of survival, family, power, and the consequences of technological dependence. Although initially popular, Revolution faced declining ratings and was ultimately cancelled after its second season. The final episode left several plot threads unresolved, prompting fan speculation and calls for a continuation of the story.
