25th Army (Wehrmacht)
The 25th Army was a German field army that existed during World War II. It was formed on November 26, 1944, in the Netherlands from elements of Army Group B and was primarily responsible for occupation duties and coastal defense in the Netherlands following the failure of Operation Market Garden.
Its area of responsibility covered the region north of the Maas River, essentially the entirety of the German-occupied Netherlands. The 25th Army's mission was to prevent Allied advances from the south and west, and to maintain order within the occupied territory. It was involved in heavy fighting during the Allied advance in the spring of 1945.
The army was commanded by General der Kavallerie Philipp Kleffel from its formation until January 1945, then by General der Gebirgstruppe Franz Böhme. In April 1945, General Günther Blumentritt assumed command.
The 25th Army surrendered to Canadian forces in May 1945, following the general German surrender.
