Royal Family (TV series)

Royal Family is an American sitcom television series that aired on CBS from September 18, 1991, to May 7, 1992. It starred Redd Foxx and Della Reese as Al and Victoria Royal, an elderly couple whose peaceful retirement is disrupted when their daughter, Elizabeth (played by Mariann Aalda), a newly single mother, and her three children move back into their home.

The show was notable for being one of Redd Foxx's final roles before his death. Foxx died on October 11, 1991, after collapsing on set during rehearsal. The show was initially put on hiatus after his death.

To continue the series, the producers decided to bring in veteran actor Jack Warden as a new character, Al Royal's brother, Uncle Henry. The show resumed production with Warden joining the cast and was retooled to focus more on the ensemble, but it was ultimately cancelled after one season. The series dealt with themes of family, aging, and multi-generational living.
