Copernicus (film)
Copernicus is a 1973 Polish biographical historical drama film directed by Ewa and Czesław Petelski. It chronicles the life of Nicolaus Copernicus, the Renaissance astronomer and mathematician who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than the Earth at the center. The film portrays Copernicus's struggles to develop his heliocentric theory, the resistance he faced from religious and scientific authorities of the time, and his eventual publication of De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres). The film aims to present a relatively accurate depiction of Copernicus's life and the intellectual climate of the 16th century. It was made as a co-production between Poland and East Germany.
