Soa (Phrygia)

Soa was an ancient city in Phrygia, a kingdom in west-central Anatolia (modern-day Turkey). Its precise location is uncertain, but based on ancient sources and archaeological discoveries, it is believed to have been situated in the northern part of Phrygia, near the border with Galatia.

Historically, Soa is primarily known from inscriptions and literary references rather than extensive archaeological excavations. It is mentioned in connection with the cult of Men, a prominent Phrygian deity, often associated with the moon and fertility. Inscriptions found in the region suggest that Soa was a center for the worship of Men Askaenos. These inscriptions provide evidence of the city's religious significance and the existence of a temple or sanctuary dedicated to Men.

Little is known about the political or economic history of Soa. It was likely a relatively small city, dependent on agriculture and possibly some local industry.
