Gene Sherman is an Australian businesswoman, academic, cultural commentator, and philanthropist, primarily known for her significant contributions to the field of contemporary art, particularly focusing on Australian and Asia-Pacific art.

Born and educated in South Africa, Sherman immigrated to Australia in 1976. Initially involved in academia, she later transitioned to the art world. In 1986, she established Sherman Galleries, a leading commercial gallery in Sydney that played a crucial role in launching and supporting the careers of numerous contemporary artists, both Australian and international. After closing Sherman Galleries in 2007, Sherman continued her engagement with the art world through the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF), which she founded. SCAF ceased its operations in 2017.
