Whitley County Courthouse (Indiana)
The Whitley County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located in Columbia City, Indiana, the county seat of Whitley County. The courthouse serves as the center of county government, housing courtrooms, offices for county officials, and related administrative functions.
The current Whitley County Courthouse is the fourth courthouse to serve the county. It was constructed between 1888 and 1891 in the Romanesque Revival style, a popular architectural style for public buildings during that period. The building is constructed of rusticated limestone and features a prominent clock tower, arched windows, and decorative carvings. The design is attributed to architect Brenton A. Streator of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Throughout its history, the Whitley County Courthouse has been a focal point for civic life in the county. It has hosted numerous trials, public meetings, and community events. The courthouse has undergone several renovations and updates over the years to accommodate changing needs, but its exterior remains largely unchanged.
