Bomber (album)

Bomber is the third studio album by the British rock band Motörhead, released on 9 March 1979. It followed their breakthrough album Overkill, released earlier the same year. Bomber cemented Motörhead's signature high-energy, heavy sound and contributed to their growing popularity.

The album was recorded at Roundhouse Recording Studios and Olympic Studios in London. The title track, "Bomber," is one of Motörhead's most well-known and enduring songs, often performed live. The lyrics draw inspiration from Len Deighton's novel Bomber, detailing the experience of bomber crews during World War II.

Bomber was produced by Jimmy Miller, known for his work with The Rolling Stones and Blind Faith. The album features Lemmy Kilmister on vocals and bass, "Fast" Eddie Clarke on guitar, and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor on drums.

The album's cover art, depicting the band members riding in a Heinkel He 111 bomber, was designed by Adrian Chesterman. The artwork has become iconic, representing the band's aggressive and powerful image.

The album reached number 12 on the UK Albums Chart. Several tracks from Bomber, in addition to the title track, such as "Dead Men Tell No Tales," "Stone Dead Forever," and "All the Aces," became staples of Motörhead's live performances.

Bomber is considered a classic of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) genre and a significant album in Motörhead's discography, showcasing their raw energy and influential sound. The album continues to be critically acclaimed and remains a popular choice among fans.
