Tropicus
Tropicus (plural: Tropici) is a Latin word meaning "belonging to the tropics" or "tropical." It is often used in scientific nomenclature, particularly in biology, to denote species, genera, or other taxa associated with tropical regions of the world. The word implies a connection to the geographic zone located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, characterized by warm temperatures and high levels of humidity and rainfall. In astronomy and geography, Tropicus is directly related to the two tropics: the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere. These lines of latitude mark the northernmost and southernmost points on Earth where the Sun can appear directly overhead at noon. The term Tropicus therefore connects the Earth's geographic features with the apparent movement of the Sun.
