ROKS Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin (DDH-975)

The ROKS Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin (DDH-975) is the lead ship of the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyers (also known as KDX-II) of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). These destroyers are multi-purpose ships designed to improve the ROKN's operational capabilities and replace older destroyers.

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin was commissioned in 2003. She is named after Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a Korean naval commander renowned for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin War in the 16th century. The ship's primary roles include anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare, and anti-submarine warfare.

Key features of the ROKS Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin include advanced radar systems, such as the AN/SPS-49(V)5 long-range air search radar and the Thales MW08 surveillance radar. She is equipped with a variety of weapons systems, including the RIM-7P Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missile, the RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM), Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and a 127mm naval gun. Anti-submarine capabilities are enhanced by the SQS-56 sonar and the Chung Sang Eo (Blue Shark) torpedoes.

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin and her sister ships have participated in various international exercises and operations, contributing to maritime security and demonstrating the ROKN's commitment to regional stability. They represent a significant upgrade in the ROKN's naval power projection capabilities.
