Company Man (Heroes)
Company Man, also known as Noah Bennet, is a central character in the NBC science fiction drama Heroes. He is portrayed by actor Jack Coleman. Initially presented as an unassuming paper company executive with a seemingly normal suburban life, Noah Bennet is revealed to be deeply involved in a clandestine organization known as the Company.
His primary role within the Company is multifaceted. He acts as an agent, recruiter, and enforcer, tasked with identifying, observing, and often capturing individuals with superhuman abilities (evolved humans, or "evos"). Bennet's methods range from surveillance and manipulation to outright violence and intimidation. He often operates in partnership with other Company agents, including the Haitian (who can nullify powers) and, at various points, his own children.
A defining characteristic of Company Man is his complex morality. While he performs actions that are often ethically questionable and even brutal, he believes that he is ultimately working towards the greater good: protecting humanity from the potential dangers posed by unchecked superhuman abilities, and ensuring the continued secrecy of the existence of evos. His dedication to this perceived higher purpose often puts him in conflict with his family, particularly his adopted daughter Claire Bennet, who possesses the power of rapid cellular regeneration (essentially immortality).
Over the course of the series, Bennet's allegiances shift and evolve as he questions the Company's true motives and the impact of his actions. He develops a more nuanced understanding of the evolved human community and becomes increasingly protective of Claire and other individuals with powers. He grapples with guilt over his past actions and seeks redemption, often at great personal cost. His relationship with Claire is a central theme throughout the series, representing the conflict between his loyalty to the Company and his desire to be a good father.
