Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (Samara)

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Samara, Russia, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral dedicated to Christ the Saviour. Construction began in 1869 based on a design by architect Alexander H. Green. The cathedral was intended to commemorate Emperor Alexander II's escape from assassination in 1866.

Due to funding difficulties and political upheaval, construction progressed slowly and was ultimately halted after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. The incomplete structure was eventually demolished in the 1930s as part of the Soviet Union's anti-religious campaigns.

In the 21st century, there have been discussions and proposals to rebuild the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Samara, although a concrete project has not yet been realized as of late 2023. The plans for reconstruction generally aim to replicate the original architectural design. The location of the proposed reconstruction is often debated. The cathedral held historical significance in the religious and architectural landscape of Samara.
