Koputaroa
Koputaroa is a small rural community located in the Horowhenua District of New Zealand's North Island. It lies approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Levin, the district's main town.
The name "Koputaroa" is of Māori origin, likely referring to a bend or loop in the nearby Koputaroa Stream. Historically, the area was a significant agricultural region, primarily focused on dairy farming and horticulture.
While small in population, Koputaroa features a primary school, Koputaroa School, which serves the local community. The community hall acts as a central gathering place for local events and activities.
Geographically, the area is characterized by its flat, fertile land and proximity to the Tararua Ranges. The Koputaroa Stream flows through the district, eventually joining the larger Horowhenua river systems.
The New Zealand State Highway 1 previously passed directly through Koputaroa, but a bypass was constructed to alleviate traffic congestion.
