Asa Baber
Asa Baber (October 18, 1936 – October 31, 2003) was an American author and journalist. He was best known for his autobiographical novel, The Magic of Sex, published in 1988. The novel explores themes of masculinity, identity, and relationships, particularly within the context of his experiences as a white man raising biracial children in a changing American society.
Baber graduated from Brown University and served in the United States Marine Corps. Before writing The Magic of Sex, he worked as a journalist and columnist. He wrote for publications such as Playboy, Penthouse, and the Chicago Sun-Times. His columns often dealt with controversial social issues and personal experiences.
Following the success of The Magic of Sex, Baber continued to write and publish essays and articles. He was known for his provocative and often contrarian views, sparking debate on topics ranging from race and gender to politics and culture. He died of heart failure in 2003.
