44th (Ferozepore) Brigade
The 44th (Ferozepore) Brigade was a brigade-sized formation of the British Indian Army during World War I. It was part of the 15th Indian Division and saw action in the Middle Eastern theatre, specifically in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq). The brigade's composition varied throughout the war, but typically included battalions from various British and Indian infantry regiments.
The Ferozepore Brigade's involvement in Mesopotamia included participation in the efforts to relieve the Siege of Kut in 1916. The brigade endured heavy casualties during these operations, which ultimately failed to break the siege. Following the fall of Kut, the brigade played a part in the subsequent advance towards Baghdad, which was captured in 1917.
After the capture of Baghdad, the 44th Brigade continued to participate in operations against the Ottoman forces in Mesopotamia, contributing to the Allied victory in the region. The brigade was eventually disbanded following the end of World War I. Its service represents a component of the larger British Indian Army's contribution to the Allied war effort in the Middle East.
