Moyale, Somali (woreda)
Moyale is a woreda (district) in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Liben Zone, Moyale is bordered on the south by Kenya, on the west by the Oromia Region, on the north by Dolo Bay, and on the east by Filtu. The principal town is Moyale, which straddles the Ethiopian-Kenyan border.
The altitude of the woreda varies widely. The lowest point is near the Dawa River along the northern border, while the highest points are in the western highlands bordering Oromia. The woreda experiences a semi-arid climate with highly variable rainfall.
The population is primarily engaged in pastoralism and small-scale agriculture. The main ethnic groups residing in Moyale woreda are the Garre and Borana Oromo.
Due to its border location, Moyale has historically been a transit point for trade and migration, and has also experienced periods of conflict related to cross-border issues, resource scarcity, and ethnic tensions.
Infrastructure within the woreda is generally underdeveloped, with limited access to basic services like healthcare, education, and clean water, particularly in the more remote rural areas.
