Brian Francis (writer)
Brian Francis (born 1971) is a Canadian writer known for his novels and memoir. He is a graduate of the Humber School for Writers.
Francis's debut novel, Natural Order, was published in 2006 and won the Amazon.ca First Novel Award. It tells the story of a man living with his widowed mother in Sarnia, Ontario, who struggles with his sexuality and a fear of disappointing her. The novel was also shortlisted for the City of Toronto Book Award.
His second novel, Fruit, published in 2009, follows a young gay boy struggling with his weight and body image in a small town. It was shortlisted for Canada Reads 2010, where it was defended by Maureen Jennings.
Francis's memoir, Missed Connections: A Memoir in Letters Never Sent, was published in 2021. It is an epistolary memoir, comprised of letters the author wrote but never sent to various people from his past, exploring themes of family, relationships, and identity.
