Haggard (band)
Haggard is a German symphonic metal band founded in 1989. The band combines classical music, early music, and death metal elements.
Haggard's signature sound is characterized by its extensive use of classical instruments, including strings (violins, violas, cellos), woodwinds (flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons), brass instruments (trumpets, trombones, horns), and keyboards. These are incorporated alongside traditional metal instruments such as guitars, bass, and drums. The vocals typically include both clean operatic singing (often by multiple singers) and guttural death growls.
The band's lyrical themes often revolve around historical events, mythology, and philosophical concepts. Their albums often tell stories or explore specific historical periods.
Notable albums include And Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer! (1997), Awaking the Centuries (2000), and Eppur Si Muove (2004), which are considered cornerstones of the symphonic metal genre.
As of late 2023, the band's lineup has experienced significant changes due to health issues affecting its founder and primary songwriter, Asis Nasseri, leading to uncertainty about the band's future activities.
