Scitex CT
Scitex CT was a high-end, prepress system developed and marketed by Scitex Corporation, primarily during the 1980s and 1990s. It was a dominant technology in the field of electronic color imaging, used for the origination, manipulation, and assembly of images for print production.
The "CT" in Scitex CT stood for "Color Terminal," and it represented the core workstation where skilled operators could perform complex image editing tasks. These tasks included color correction, retouching, silhouetting, image assembly, and special effects.
The Scitex CT system was often connected to other Scitex components, such as scanners and output devices (imagesetters or plotters), forming a complete, integrated workflow for high-quality print production. The system's strength lay in its ability to handle very large image files with precision, employing proprietary hardware and software solutions.
Scitex CT was a significant investment for printing houses and service bureaus, signifying a commitment to advanced technology and high-end production. The system's capabilities enabled greater control over the image creation process and allowed for more sophisticated and visually compelling printed materials. The advent of desktop publishing systems and the increasing power of personal computers eventually led to the decline of dedicated prepress systems like Scitex CT.
